Formula for Business Success

I never paid much attention to maths at school, so ‘formula’ and ‘equations‘ were  dreaded words…they heralded hours of trying to work out answers to things I wasn’t interested in; homework I wasn’t going to complete and ultimately detention every lunch-time!

Since then it’s come to take on a completely different meaning; one of excitement, new ideas, creativity and ultimately improved results. And as (I hope) most of us are after better quality results in our lives and businesses then we should love making up a new formulae for success.

So what does P+F+C=F stand for?

The first letter ‘P’ stands for Passion – I know that in order to get great results you must have a passion for what you are doing. What do I mean by that? You believe in your business/idea at such a deep level that you awaken each day excited by what you will be doing. You understand that you are serving your customers by solving their problems and you love helping people. When times are not as brilliant as they could be, you see the success ahead and move swiftly towards it. Simply put – you LOVE what you are offering! This will give you the drive to do the things you might not really want to; it will enable you to push through the tough times and it will make the difference between failure and success! As I’ve said before you should profit from your passion, so check that you are passionate about your ‘offering’.

The second letter ‘F’ stands for Focus – once you are truly focussed on something there is no limit to your ability and therefore your results. When you are playing golf, you have one ball and one hole (forgive the lack of golfing jargon!) to get this in; you put all your attention to that one ball and where you want to place it. Imagine for a moment there were 5 or 6 golf balls…would you manage to hit any of them? And if you did where would they go? Would you have any control over any of them, or would it be down to luck where they ended up? If you are not getting the results you want, get rid of the things that are getting in the way.

The third letter ‘C’ stands for Clarity – when you are doing something with passion and focus this gives you total clarity of thought, clarity of action and clarity of results. So this is a powerful piece to the formula and the part that gives you real momentum to your actions, which therefore quickens your end results. You know you have this and when you don’t; keep getting rid of unwanted baggage until you become clear!

So when you have all three of those you equal the last but by no means least – the letter ‘F’ again, which stands this time for Flow – once you act out of passion, are focussed and have clarity you will manifest what we know as ‘Flow’. Have you ever seen people who just get one great result after another, seemingly without effort? Where life just gets better and better? Yes, that’s being ‘in flow’. There is a great book on this subject: ‘Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience’ by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.
